Mistake 1: Measuring Before the Renovation Is Finished

Mistake 3: Defaulting to Curtain Track for Every Bay or Corner Window

Many new HDB flats have bay windows or corner window configurations, and it's a common instinct to reach for a curtain track because it "wraps around" better than a single flat blind. In practice, a motorised curtain track's L-shape or U-shape bends are fixed at a true 90°, so they suit right-angle corners like a box bay or corner glass wall — not the shallower, obtuse-angle multi-panel bay windows typical in many BTO living rooms and bedrooms. For those shallower bay configurations, blinds fitted to each panel individually usually give a cleaner, better-sealed result than forcing a curtain track around an angle it isn't built for.

Mistake 4: Ordering Too Close to Move-In Day

Fabric-based blinds and curtains — roller, combi, venetian, and curtain track panels — typically take 5-6 weeks from confirmed order to install, covering fabrication and shipping. DIY curtain track kits move faster since there's no custom fabrication step. If you're targeting a specific move-in date, place your order at least 6-7 weeks ahead to leave buffer for install scheduling, which gets tighter during peak renovation season when many other new flats in the same BTO batch are all fitting out at once.

Mistake 5: Choosing One Fabric for the Whole Flat

It's simpler to pick one blind type and fabric and use it everywhere — but bedrooms and living rooms usually want different things. A bedroom benefits from a blackout-capable option: a blackout roller, a high-opacity combi fabric, or venetian slats closed fully. A living room or study often does better with a sheer or dimout fabric that keeps daylight coming in. Standardising the mechanism (say, combi blinds throughout) while varying the fabric tier by room usually gives a better result than using identical fabric everywhere.
