Ordering Blinds Before Chinese New Year: A Lead-Time Timeline for Singapore Homes
Many Singapore homes want fresh window treatments in place before the Lunar New Year reunion dinners and visiting rounds. Because made-to-measure motorised products take weeks to arrive, the date to care about is not the festival itself but the day you need to order. This guide works backwards from the season to give you a realistic timeline.
Why the Order Date Matters More Than the Install Date
Our lead time is 5-6 weeks. That covers fabrication and shipping for fabric-based blinds, and customised curtain tracks take around a week and a half to fabricate on top of scheduling. The key point is that the clock starts when your order is confirmed, not when you first enquire. Anything that delays confirmation, such as unfinished measurements, an undecided fabric or a pending renovation, pushes the whole timeline back.
Lunar New Year 2027 falls in early February, so a home that wants to be ready needs the order in during early December at the latest. If that date has already crept up on you, do not panic: the sections below show where to save time and what to do if you miss the window.
A Working-Backwards Timeline
Use this as a planning template. Dates are approximate and assume no major slips; your own survey and installation slots will fix the real ones.
| Roughly when | Milestone | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Now to mid-November | Decide rooms and products | Walk every window, list which rooms you want first, and shortlist track, roller, combi or venetian per room. |
| Mid to late November | Confirm measurements | Only measure once walls, ceilings and pelmets are final. Use our online calculator for an instant estimate, then book the free on-site survey. |
| Late November to early December | Place the order | Confirm fabrics, motor type (wired or battery) and ecosystem. This starts the 5-6 week clock. |
| December to mid-January | Fabrication and shipping | Nothing for you to do except prepare power points and clear access. See our pre-installation checklist. |
| Mid to late January | Installation | Confirm your slot early. Allow a few days of buffer before guests arrive for set-up and testing. |
| Final week before the festive season | Test and build scenes | Run through every window, set a simple hosting scene and show the household how it works. |
If you are building from a bare-shell flat, read our guide to common mistakes when choosing blinds for a new BTO or condo before setting any dates, as renovation sequencing is where most delays begin.
Step One: Settle the Decisions That Cannot Wait
Three choices hold up an order more than any others. First, products per room. A blackout roller blind (from $60/sqm) suits a bedroom, a sunscreen roller (from $55/sqm) keeps a study bright, combi blinds ($88/sqm Dimout, $99 Blackout) give two light modes, venetian (from $80/sqm) suits kitchens and bathrooms, and a curtain track (from $150) suits wide living room glass. If you are torn, our curtains vs blinds comparison walks through each room type. All prices are GST-inclusive.
Second, power type. Wired motors need a nearby socket, while battery motors carry a $20-$40 premium and typically need recharging every 3-6 months. If your electrician is still working, now is the time to ask for sockets; see planning power points and cabling. Third, ecosystem. Choose Tuya/Smart Life, or Aqara if you use Apple HomeKit and Siri, and keep the whole home on one. Our Tuya vs Aqara guide helps you decide.
Step Two: Measure at the Right Moment
Measure after ceilings, paint and pelmet work are complete, not before. For curtain tracks, allow the pelmet clearance needed (10cm for a single track, 18cm for a double). If you are unsure how to take measurements, follow our window measuring guide, or book the free on-site survey and let us do it. Remember the 1.5 sqm minimum billing area per blind, and the maximum single-panel widths of 3.0m for roller and zip blinds and 2.4m for combi and venetian.
Step Three: Plan for Installation Season
Renovation trades are generally busier in the weeks before the festive period, so installation dates can be harder to secure than usual. Free delivery applies for orders of $200 and above, and free installation for $500 and above, but your slot still needs confirming early. Our installation timeline guide explains what to expect on the day, and the pre-installation checklist helps you prepare so the visit runs smoothly.
What If You Miss the Window?
Not every home will make the date, and that is fine. Three practical options work well. Keep existing curtains or temporary coverings until the new ones arrive and enjoy the festive season without pressure. Phase the project, starting with the rooms guests will see, such as the living and dining areas, and leave bedrooms for later; our guide to phasing a project room by room shows how. Or simply schedule installation for after the visiting rush, so there is time to set up scenes properly.
It is better to wait a couple of weeks than to rush a measurement or accept a fabric you are not sure about, because made-to-measure items cannot be returned for a different size once fabricated.
Once Everything Is Installed
Give yourself a few days before the first gathering to test every window from the app and by voice, and to build one or two simple scenes such as a bright daytime hosting mode and a softer evening mode. Our festive hosting scenes guide has ready-made ideas, and the first-week tips guide covers the settling-in routine. Ask relatives and helpers to try the controls too, so the home runs smoothly while you host.
